About Me

A portrait picture of Marco Yepez-Gomez

My name is Marco Yepez-Gomez, and I am a proud Marshalltown resident representing Marshalltown Ward 1 starting January 1, 2026. I advocate for the ordinary people of Marshalltown and believe local government should work for all the people who live here. During my 2025 campaign, I ran to be a strong supporter of more housing, better public transit, and a stronger downtown. I believe strong communities are built with bold visions that focus on building instead of tearing down, being inclusive instead of divided, and working together instead of alone.

Like many people in Marshalltown, I am the son of immigrants who came here for a better life. I grew up here, attended Marshalltown public schools, and now work at Marshalltown Company as a software engineer. As a kid, I benefited from programs like food assistance and Medicaid, along with educational opportunities such as the Marshalltown Education Partnership and Science Bound. These programs opened doors that changed my life. From my own experience, I know that when people have access to the right support, they can reach their full potential. A strong community is one where opportunity is real for everyone and where hard work is met with the resources needed to thrive.
